On July 10, 1970, a 242nd Assault Support Helicopter Company CH-47 was shot down in Vietnam by three RPG rounds. Crew members Spec 4 Ross Bedient and Spec 4 David Schultz were killed. Seven passengers also lost their lives: SFC Thomas Campbell, Spec 4 Roy Harris, Spec 4 Dennis Martin, Sgt. Robert Oldham, Staff Sgt. Carey Pratt, SFC Elroy Simmons, and Spec 4 Michael Vullo. Ten other passengers were wounded.
