Bettyann Pappenfus—who is working on a novel about a young man from a small town who is drafted in 1967, goes to Vietnam, and comes back—would like some input from Vietnam veterans. She is particularly interested in these questions:
How did your mother react when you received your draft notice or announced you were enlisting?
How did your father react when you received your draft notice or announced you were enlisting?
Did your parents go with you to the induction center?
What changes did you notice in each of your parents when you came back into the world?
“I’ve done a lot of reading by and about Vietnam vets, ” Pappenfus told us. “I don’t think society has any appreciation of the horrible physical conditions soldiers endured in addition to the combat. Any help for the book would be much appreciated.”
