Chapter 955 Gives Motorcycle to Iraq War Vet

Mike Kelly, Jr., Vice Director of VVA Chapter 955 and a member of American Legion Post 184 in Wildwood, N.J., recently organized the donation of motorcycle to a young Iraq War veteran.

Kelly’s friend Carol Jacoby expressed an interest in giving the motorcycle away; and as a recent military widow, she wanted the 2005 Harley Sportster 1200 to go to another veteran. Kelly worked with Jose “Ponch” Gomez, a K-9 Officer with the Cape May County Sheriff’s Department, to find a recipient. Gomez’ coworker, Ed Ross, was ultimately selected for his brave service through two tours of Iraq.

“When Carol mentioned she wanted to give her bike away, I knew I could help,” Kelly told the Press of Atlantic City. “Just because I did not get welcomed home as a Vietnam veteran doesn’t mean the new guys can’t get welcomed home. Ed is a great guy, and he was extremely happy and surprised to receive the bike.”
