I receive many requests from VVA and AVVA members to add
the names of deceased Vietnam veteran friends of members
who have never been members of VVA or AVVA. Due to space
restrictions, we made an editorial policy only to include
members and past members of VVA and AVVA. Thank you for
your understanding.
Kenneth Leroy Abell, 45, died December
8, 1988, in Fresno, California, from an aortic aneurysm.
He served in the U.S. Air Force with a tour of duty in
Vietnam from 1965-66. Abell was a member of Vietnam Veterans
of America Fresno Chapter 247.
Kenneth J. Baily, Jr., 62,
died February 4 at his home in Philipsburg, Pennsylvania,
from lung cancer. He served in the U.S. Navy and retired
after 20 years of service. In Vietnam he served in Danang,
Chu Lai, and Saigon and was highly decorated. Baily was a
life member and past president of Vietnam Veterans of America
Stroudsburg Chapter 678.
Alvin E. Baldwin, 62, died May 22
in Occidental, California, when his Jeep went over a cliff.
He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and a member of Vietnam
Veterans of America Santa Rosa Chapter 223.
Freeman Eugene
Benedict, 59, died January 18 in Odanak, Quebec, Canada,
from colorectal cancer. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps
in Vietnam from 1966-67. Benedict was a member of Vietnam
Veterans of America Ware (Massachusetts) Chapter 405.
Joseph
A. Bobak III, 59, died November 28, 2006, in Windber, Pennsylvania,
from head and neck cancer. He served in the U.S. Army during
the Vietnam War from 1968-69 and was awarded the Bronze Star
with “V” device for valor and
the Purple Heart. Bobak was a member of Vietnam Veterans
of America Johnstown Chapter 364.
Edward Joseph Bosco, 86,
died June 15 in St. Louis, Missouri, from renal failure and
congestive heart failure. He served in the U.S. Army from
1950-67 with service during the Korean War and the Vietnam
War and retired at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Bosco
was a life member of Vietnam Veterans of America Tidewater
(Virginia Beach) Chapter 48.
Ralph Marvin Burnett, Jr., 64,
died May 9 in Baltimore. He served in the U.S. Army as a
First Lieutenant in Korea and the Vietnam War. Burnett was
a member of Vietnam Veterans of America Cumberland Chapter
172.
James Owens Carnes, 59, died May 16 in Paradise, Montana.
He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and a member of Vietnam
Veterans of America Paradise Chapter 871.
Kendall John Chapman,
81, died July 10 in Virginia Beach, Virginia. He served in
the U.S. Navy from 1945-67, retiring at the rank of Commander.
Chapman was a member of Vietnam Veterans of America Tidewater
(Virginia Beach) Chapter 48.
John D. Clark, 57, died July
24 in Mays Landing, New Jersey. He was a veteran of the Vietnam
War and a Life Member of Vietnam Veterans of America Mays
Landing Chapter 825.
William D. Clements, 54, died January
21 in O’Fallon,
Missouri. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam era.
Clements was a Life Member of Vietnam Veterans of America
St. Peter’s Chapter 458.
Robert W. Cline, 77, died October
3, 2006, in Concord, North Carolina. He was a veteran of
the Vietnam War and a member of Vietnam Veterans of America
Concord Chapter 909.
Frank T. Colasurdo died recently in Bayonne,
New Jersey. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and a Life
Member of Vietnam Veterans of America Bayonne Chapter 151.
Phillip
J. Cronkhite, Sr., 60, died February 26 in South Glens Fall,
New York. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1965-70 as a Navy
Corpsman attached to the U.S. Marine Corps. Cronkhite was
a member of Vietnam Veterans of America Queensbury Chapter
79.
David DeLuca died recently at home in Sun City, California.
He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and a member of Vietnam
Veterans of America Long Beach Chapter 756.
John D. Dennison,
58, died May 24 at his home in Cumberland, Maryland, from
advanced renal cell (kidney) cancer. He served in the U.S.
Army and served in Vietnam as a Combat Medic with 1st Battalion,
8th Cavalry. Dennison was a member of Vietnam Veterans of
America Cumberland Chapter 172.
Robert Dodson, 57, died October
11, 2006, in La Belle, Pennsylvania. He was a veteran of
the Vietnam War and a member of Vietnam Veterans of America
Cresson Chapter 359.
Imogene Mildred Earl died June 26 in
Placentia, California. She was a veteran of the Vietnam War
and a member of Vietnam Veterans of America California.
Dennis
R. Elcyzyn died October 24, 2004, in Grove, Oklahoma. He
was a veteran of the Vietnam War and a Charter Member of
Vietnam Veterans of America Grove Chapter 878.
John Eric Ericson,
61, died March 19 in Rossville, Georgia, from a massive heart
attack. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War
at the rank of Specialist Four and was honorably discharged
in 1970. Ericson was a member of Vietnam Veterans of America
Chattanooga Chapter 203.
James Fairbanks, 55, died July 23
in Lovelock, Nevada. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War
and a member of Vietnam Veterans of America Lovelock Chapter
834.
Thomas Maryon Fairfield died June 10 in Paradise, Montana.
He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and a member of Vietnam
Veterans of America Paradise Chapter 871.
John Gelormino,
56, died July 26 in Detroit. He was a veteran of the Vietnam
War and a Life Member of Vietnam Veterans of America Detroit
Chapter 9.
James Alan Gentry, 58, died June 8 in Rossville,
Georgia, from cancer and respiratory failure. He served in
the U.S. Army with a tour of duty in Vietnam from 1969-70,
attaining the rank of Specialist Five. Gentry was a member
of Vietnam Veterans of America Atlanta Chapter 883.
Earnest
G. Gilbert, 66, died July 5 in Hinesville, Georgia. He served
in the U.S. Army with a tour of duty in Vietnam from 1967-68.
Gilbert was a Life Member of Vietnam Veterans of America
Hinesville Chapter 789.
Robert James Grabenstein, 76, died
June 3 in Frostburg, Maryland. He served in the U.S. Army
and retired at the rank of Master Sergeant (E-8). He served
two tours in Vietnam the first as an American Advisor and
the second tour with the 4th Infantry Division. Grabenstein
was a member of Vietnam Veterans of America Cumberland Chapter
172.
Duart Michael Gribble, 59, died February 23 in Dellslow,
West Virginia, from liver failure. He served in the U.S.
Army and retired at the rank of Sergeant. He served in two
wars the 192nd in Vietnam and the 201st Field Artillery in
Desert Storm. He was a Life Member of Vietnam Veterans of
America Morgantown Chapter 306.
Bryant B. Hamaker, 67, died
recently in Portsmouth, Virginia. He was a veteran of the
Vietnam War and a member of Vietnam Veterans of America Tidewater
(Virginia Beach) Chapter 48.
Darrell Keith Hodges, 59, died
May 28 at the Beckley VA Medical Center in Beckley, West
Virginia, from Agent Orange-related hepatitis C. He served
in the U.S. Army with service in Vietnam with the First Air
Cavalry (Infantry Path Finder). He was awarded the Purple
Heart. Hodges was a Life Member of Vietnam Veterans of America
Blue-Gray (Bluefield) Chapter 628 and then transferred to
the newly established East River Mountain (Bluefield) Chapter
985.
Foster Howitt, 69, died in 2005 in South Carolina. He
was a veteran of the Vietnam War and an at-large Life Member
of Vietnam Veterans of America South Carolina.
Ronald F. Hubbard, 77, died June 29 in Ellensburg, Washington.
He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and an at-large Life
Member of Vietnam Veterans of America Washington.
Henry Clay
Jefferson, Jr., 64, died April 27 in Lawton, Oklahoma. He
served in the U.S. Army from 1962 and retired 30 years later
in 1992 at the rank of Command Sergeant Major. He served
five tours in Germany, two tours in Korea, and one tour in
Vietnam. He received many awards and was highly decorated.
Jefferson was a Life Member of Vietnam Veterans of America
Lawton Chapter 751.
Harrell Baker Johnson, 69, died June 30
in Lindale, Texas, from cancer. He served in the U.S. Air
Force with service in Vietnam and retired after a long career.
Johnson was a member of Vietnam Veterans of America Tyler
Chapter 932.
Stanley Kasprick died September 17, 2004, in
Wisconsin. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and a Life
Member of Vietnam Veterans of America Racine Chapter 767.
Earl A. Keck, Jr., 76, died February 14 in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, from a massive
heart attack. He served in both the U.S. Marine Corps and
the U.S. Army during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Keck was
a member of Vietnam Veterans of America Pottstown Chapter
565.
Fed W. Kellum, 64, died June 21 in Bennington, Vermont,
from heart disease. He joined the U.S. Army in 1962 and retired
in 1982. From 1962-72, he was a crew chief and flew helicopters.
In his last 10 years in the Army, he was a military police
officer. He did two tours of duty in Vietnam and one tour
in the Dominican Republic. Kellum was a Life Member of Vietnam
Veterans of America Bennington Chapter 601.
Peter W. Klug,
61, died April 8 in Cornell, Michigan, from a heart attack.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps with three tours of duty
in the Vietnam War and was awarded the Purple Heart among
many other awards. Klug was a Life Member of Vietnam Veterans
of America Escanaba Chapter 345.
Eugene L. Kusche, 61, died
February 4 in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. He served in the U.S.
Army with a tour of duty in Vietnam from 1965-66 assigned
to the Third Radio Research Unit of the A.S.A. in Saigon.
Kusche was a Life Member of Vietnam Veterans of America Manitowoc
Chapter 731.
Andrew F. Lachina, 54, died June 26 in Tonawanda,
New York, from Agent Orange- related cancer. He served in
the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. Lachina was
a member of Vietnam Veterans of America Tonawanda Chapter
77.
Thaddeus J. Lantych died May 4, 2006, in Haverhill, Massachusetts,
from Agent Orange-related diabetes type II and renal and
heart failure. He served in the U.S. Navy with the River
Rats in Vietnam. Lantych was a member of Vietnam Veterans
of America Massachusetts.
Joe Ramon Lee, 68, died July 9,
2005, at his home in Ottawa, Kansas, from heart failure.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1954-75, retiring at the
rank of Lieutenant Commander. Among his many deployments,
he served in the Vietnam War. Lee was a member of Vietnam
Veterans of America Ottawa Chapter 912.
Ricardo M. Lopez,
55, died January 4 at his home in Las Cruces, New Mexico,
from colon cancer. He served in the U.S. Army with a tour
of duty in Vietnam from 1970-71 as a turret gunner with the
4th Infantry Division in the Central Highlands and also served
with the 23rd Infantry Americal Division. Lopez was a member
of Vietnam Veterans of America Las Cruces Chapter 431.
Jeffrey
Arnold Mabin, 54, died July 8 in Monaca, Pennsylvania. He
served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War from 1972-74.
Mabin was a member of Vietnam Veterans of America Freedom
Chapter 862.
Arthur Renteria Marin, 61, died July 8 in Tempe,
Arizona, from colon cancer. He served in the U.S. Army from
1968-70 with a combat tour with Company C, 1st Battalion,
8th Infantry, 4th Infantry Division in Pleiku, Kontum, and
Dak To, Vietnam. He attained the rank of Sergeant. His military
awards included two Bronze Stars. Marin was an at-large member
of Vietnam Veterans of America Arizona.
Robert Mathena, 70,
died September 20, 2006, in Indianapolis from ALS Lou Gehrig’s
disease. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War.
Mathena was a member of Vietnam Veterans of America Indianapolis
Chapter 295.
Larry Allen Matthews, 57, died March 26 in Memphis.
He was a resident of Plantersville, Mississippi. He served
in the U.S. Army with two tours of duty in Vietnam. Matthews
was a member of Vietnam Veterans of America Tupelo Chapter
842.
Ralph Maurrizio died March 21 in Middletown, New York.
He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and a member of Vietnam
Veterans of America Newburgh Chapter 537.
Scott R. McLaughlin,
59, died February 22 at his home in Arkdale, Wisconsin, from
cancer. He served in the U.S. Army from 1968-71. He served
in Germany during the Vietnam era. McLaughlin was a member
of Vietnam Veterans of America Janesville Chapter 236.
Robert
Andrew McNaul, 93, died May 16 in Curwensville, Pennsylvania,
from heart failure. He served in the U.S. Army and the U.S.
Navy during World War II in France and Belgium. McNaul was
a member of Associates of Vietnam Veterans of America Clearfield
Chapter 974.
Donald F. McNew, Sr., 57, died June 10 in Fort
Dodge, Iowa. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1968-70 with
a tour of duty in Vietnam in 1969. McNew was a member of
Vietnam Veterans of America Fort Dodge Chapter 861.
Richard
Francis Messier, 73, died May 2 in Palmer, Massachusetts.
He served in the U.S. Air Force in Korea during the Vietnam
era. Messier was a Founding Member of Vietnam Veterans of
America Ware Chapter 405.
Wayne Robert Nephew, 61, died May
25 at the Buffalo, New York, VA Medical Center from Agent
Orange-related lung cancer. He was a resident of Collins,
New York. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps as a Sergeant
with two tours of duty in Vietnam with Marine Battalions
1, 2, and 3. Nephew was a member of Vietnam Veterans of America
Cassadaga Chapter 459.
Douglas Richard Neu, 64, died February
11 in Boynton Beach, Florida, from cancer. He served in the
U.S. Army with a tour of duty in the Vietnam War. Neu was
a member of Vietnam Veterans of America West Palm Beach Chapter
25.
Henry A. Nickle, 84, died March 11 at his home in Lawton,
Oklahoma, from cancer. He was drafted into the U.S. Army
on October 16, 1942, during World War II. He was assigned
to the 381st Infantry Regiment, 96th Infantry Division. He
took part in the invasion of Okinawa on April 1, 1945. He
served as First Sergeant of an Infantry Basic Training Company
at Fort Lewis, Washington, during the Korean War. In 1968,
he was assigned to the 9th Infantry Division on the Mekong
Delta in Vietnam. He retired at the rank of Master Sergeant.
Nickle was a member of Vietnam Veterans of America Lawton
Chapter 751.
Lawrence F. Ott, 60, died July 5 in Saint Marys,
Pennsylvania, from a brain tumor. He served in the U.S. Marine
Corps with a tour in Vietnam from 1965-66. Ott was a permanently
hospitalized member of Vietnam Veterans of America Saint
Marys Chapter 948.
Edmund C. Parker, Sr., 78, died March 15
in the Batavia VA Medical Center in Batavia, New York. He
was a resident of Basom, New York. He served in the U.S.
Air Force, retiring in 1979 at the rank of Master Sergeant.
He served during the Korean War from 1952-53 and in the Vietnam
War from 1968-69. Parker was a member of Vietnam Veterans
of America LeRoy Chapter 193.
Ronald L. Patrick, 58, died
June 5 in Alpine, California, from mesothelioma. He served
in Vietnam with the U.S. Marine Corps and was awarded two
Purple Hearts and one Bronze Star with “V” device
for his part in a search-and-destroy mission in Quang Nam
Province in October 1967. He was credited with rescuing a
wounded comrade during a firefight by carrying him to an
evacuation helicopter. Patrick was a member of Vietnam Veterans
of America Redondo Beach Chapter 53.
Clifton Leon Perkins, 81, died May 19 in Wilmington, California,
from heart failure. He served in the U.S. Navy for 30 years
retiring at the rank of E-7. He served in three wars including
the Vietnam War. Perkins was a Life Member of Vietnam Veterans
of America Tidewater (Virginia Beach, Virginia) Chapter 48.
Thomas
B. Petrie, 65, died March 15 in Pavilion, New York, as a
result of an automobile accident. He served in the U.S. Army
from 1964-66 with a tour of duty in the Vietnam. He was a
member and past president of Vietnam Veterans of America
LeRoy Chapter 193.
Thomas C. Richardson, 61, died July 23
in Lovelock, Nevada. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War
and a member of Vietnam Veterans of America Lovelock Chapter
834.
Calvin L. Richmond, 61, died September 28, 2006, in Leesburg,
Virginia. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and a member
of Vietnam Veterans of America Silver Spring (Maryland) Chapter
641.
Charles Anthony Rozas, Jr. died March 14 in Lake Charles,
Louisiana. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and a member
of Vietnam Veterans of America Santa Barbara (California)
Chapter 218.
James Hillard Runyon, Jr., 61, died May 31 in
Sinking Spring, Pennsylvania, from diabetes mellitus type
II and congestive heart failure. He served in the U.S. Air
Force during the Vietnam War for two tours of duty. Runyon
was a member of Vietnam Veterans of America Reading Chapter
131.
Mary L. See, 100, died January 7 in Winchester, Kentucky,
from vascular disease. She was a Life Member of Associates
of Vietnam Veterans of America Chattanooga Chapter 203.
Robert
R. Seredy, 65, died July 26, 2006, in Cleveland, Ohio. He
served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Seredy was
a member of Vietnam Veterans of America Parma Chapter 15.
Mark
Shaver died July 30 in Jackson, Michigan. He was a veteran
of the Vietnam War and a member of Vietnam Veterans of America
Jackson Chapter 371.
Paul R. Shown, 70, died June 7 in Topeka,
Kansas, from complications from open heart surgery. He served
in the U.S. Army with tours in Vietnam from 1965-66 and again
from 1970- 71. Shown was a member of Vietnam Veterans of
America Junction City Chapter 344.
Frederick Allen Singleton,
66, died May 19 in Cumberland, Maryland, from cancer. He
served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Singleton
was a member of Vietnam Veterans of America Cumberland Chapter
172.
David L. Slawter, 59, died April 3 in Huttonsville, West
Virginia, from cardiac disease. He served in the U.S. Army
with a tour in Vietnam from 1968-69. Slawter was a member
of Vietnam Veterans of America Huttonsville Chapter 812.
Edward
Sobocinski, 66, died July 12 in Hobart, Indiana, from a heart
attack. He served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam from 1966-67
with the 51st Infantry and also with the 1st Cavalry in Korea.
Sobocinski was a member of Vietnam Veterans of America Phoenix
Chapter 432.
Leon P. Stevens died recently in Flint, Michigan.
He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and a Life Member of
Vietnam Veterans of America Flint Chapter 175.
Melanie Bergen
Stewart, 64, died April 22 in Richmond, Indiana, from cancer.
She was a member of Associates of Vietnam Veterans of America
Richmond Chapter 777.
Gred L. Sutton died June 6 in Fort Sill,
Oklahoma. He was a member of the Associates of Vietnam Veterans
of America Lawton Chapter 751.
Rodney Moore Tabor, 62, died
May 30 in New Smyrna Beach, Florida, from a heart attack.
He served in the U.S. Army in Germany during the Vietnam
era. Tabor was a Life Member and vice-president of Vietnam
Veterans of America Edgewater Chapter 916.
Duane Herbert Tefft,
Sr., 59, died February 20 at his home in Putney, Vermont,
from Agent Orange-related cancer of the lungs, bone, brain,
and spleen. He was awarded the Silver Rose for illness received
while serving in Vietnam. He served in the U.S. Army with
two and a half tours of duty in Vietnam. Tefft was a Life
Member of Vietnam Veterans of America Brattleboro Chapter
843.
John Thornton, 56, died July 26 in Nevada. He was a veteran
of the Vietnam War and an at-large Member of Vietnam Veterans
of America Nevada.
Elwyn Thronberry, Sr., 62, died June 19
at his home in Memphis from clostridium difficile. He served
in the U.S. Army with a tour of duty in Vietnam from 1967-68
with the 4th Infantry, HQ Company A, 123rd Maintenance Battalion,
1st Armored Division. Thronberry was a member of Vietnam
Veterans of America Memphis Chapter 875.
Ronald Lee Waddell, 63, died March 20 in Lebanon, Pennsylvania,
from heart disease. He served in the U.S. Army and retired
at the rank of Captain (O-3). He was a helicopter pilot during
the Vietnam War flying UH-1 Assault Helicopters and CH-47
Heavy Cargo Chinook Helicopters, clocking nearly 2,400 flight
hours of which 956 were combat hours which included nearly
1500 combat missions. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal,
the Air Medal with “V” device with an additional
31 Oak Leaf Clusters, the Meritorious and Presidential Unit
Citations; the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, the
Medal for Humanitarian Service from the Secretary of Defense
for six air/sea rescues during Hurricane Eloise, and many
other awards. Waddell was a Life Member of Vietnam Veterans
of America Michael J. Novosel M.O.H., Capitol (Harrisburg)
Chapter 542.
Daniel L. Wagendorf, 60, died February 3 in Williston,
North Dakota, from a heart attack. He served in the U.S.
Army with a tour of duty in Vietnam from 1964-65. Wagendorf
was a member of Vietnam Veterans of America Williston Chapter
147.
Edward A. Warmka, 59, died May 15, 2006, in Wells, Minnesota,
from a heart attack. He served in the U.S. Marines in the
Vietnam War. Warmka was a Life Member of Vietnam Veterans
of America Dunnell Chapter 832.
Michael Thomas Walsh, 68,
died February 8 in Norfolk, Virginia, from heart failure.
He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War as a chief
journalist from 1969-73 and attained the rank of E-7. Walsh
was a Life Member of Vietnam Veterans of America Tidewater
(Virginia Beach) Chapter 48.
Hugh E. Watson, 79, died April
12 in Altus, Oklahoma, from liver failure. He served in the
U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam era. Watson was a Life
Member of Vietnam Veterans of America Lawton Chapter 751.
Robert
James Webb, 78, died March 30 in San Diego, California, from
prostate cancer and a stroke. He served in the U.S. Navy
during World War II, Korea, and Vietnam, retiring in 1976
after 24 years of service. His Vietnam Service was from 1966-67.
Webb was a member of Vietnam Veterans of America San Diego
Chapter 472.
Rickey Lee Wegman, 61, died March 8 in Fort Dodge,
Iowa, from cancer. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from
1966-68, attaining the rank of Corporal during the Vietnam
War. Wegman was a member of Vietnam Veterans of America Fort
Dodge Chapter 861.
George R. Williams died July 3 in Campbell,
California. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam
War. Williams was a Life Member of Vietnam Veterans of America
San Jose Chapter 201.
Richard Norris Wilson, 60, died April
30 in Detroit from hypertensive and arteriosclerotic cardiovascular
disease and diabetes mellitus. He served in the U.S. Air
Force during the Vietnam War from 1966-70. Wilson was a member
of Vietnam Veterans of America Detroit Chapter 9.
Michael
E. Wojciechowski died July 6 in Traverse City, Michigan.
He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and a Life Member of
Vietnam Veterans of America Traverse City Chapter 68.
Clifford
O. Wood died March 21 in Ardmore, Oklahoma. He was a veteran
of the Vietnam War and an At-Large Member of Vietnam Veterans
of America Oklahoma.
Robert A. Young, 62, died January 14
in Maywood, New Jersey. He served in the U.S. Army during
the Vietnam War. Young was a member of Vietnam Veterans of
America East Rutherford Chapter 800.
Richard D. Zieba, 62,
died March 1 in Hobart, Indiana. The cause of death was liver
disease, diabetes mellitus type II, and persistent infections
from two shoulder surgeries. He served in the U.S. Army from
1965-67 during the Vietnam War. Zieba was a member of Vietnam
Veterans of America Portage Chapter 905.
