Joseph Randall “Randy” “Doc” Barnes,
67, died December 2, 2006, in Kansas City, Missouri, from
a massive heart attack. He served in the U.S. Army as a Combat
Medic with B Battery, 5/2 Automatic Weapons Self-Propelled
(Dusters and Quad-Fifties), attached to the 25th Infantry
Division in Cu Chi, Dau Tieng, and Tay Ninh, Vietnam. He
was a life member, co-founder, and first president of Vietnam
Veterans of America-Kansas City Chapter 317. He was an at-large
member of the National VVA Board of Directors from 1991 until
his death. He was president of the Vietnam Veterans Assistance
Fund. In 2001, Barnes received the VVA National Commendation
Medal.
Jean Beja, 91, died of cancer August 28, 2006, in Neptune,
New Jersey. She was a member of Associates of Vietnam Veterans
of America-Allenhurst Chapter 12. She was the oldest living
member of Chapter 12 and was known as “Mom” to
chapter members.
Elmer W. Brickerd, 64, died January 5, 2006,
in Waldorf, Maryland. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War.
Brickerd was an at-large life member of Vietnam Veterans
of America-Maryland.
Brian D. Brown died recently in Honolulu.
A veteran of the Vietnam War, Brown was a life member of
Vietnam Veterans of America-Reading (Pennsylvania) Chapter
131.
Joseph Bulger, 56, died recently in Herkimer, New York.
He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and a life member of
Vietnam Veterans of America-Herkimer Chapter 827.
Douglas
G. Conrad, 61, died November 18, 2006, in Denton, Texas,
from pneumonia. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam
War. Conrad was an at-large member of Vietnam Veterans of
America-Texas.
Delmer Dale Daniels, 59, died October 9, 2006,
in Mason City, Iowa, from metastatic adenocarcinoma, Agent
Orange-related diabetes type II, and hypertension. He served
in the U.S. Army from September 1966 to July 1970 with a
tour of duty in Vietnam from February 1967 to March 1968
with the 2nd Battalion, 14th Infantry Division, stationed
at Cu Chi and Tay Ninh. He was a life member of Vietnam Veterans
of America-Mason City Chapter 790.
Thomas B. Eusanio died
January 6 in Buffalo, New York. He served in the U.S. Marine
Corps as a Lance Corporal during the Vietnam War. He was
a member of Vietnam Veterans of America-Tonawanda Chapter
77.
John L. Felton, 75, died December 12, 2006, in Pottstown,
Pennsylvania. He served in the U.S. Army as a Chief Warrant
Officer and served in the Korean and the Vietnam Wars. He
was a member of Vietnam Veterans of America-Pottstown Chapter
565.
Ernest R. Gibson, Jr., 61, died recently in Dacula, Georgia.
He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and a life member of
Vietnam Veterans of America-Baton Rouge Chapter 488.
Thomas
Eugene Goodwin, 71, died November 13, 2006, in Lawton, Oklahoma.
He served in the U.S. Army from October 1955 and retired
in August 1978 in Fort Sill, Oklahoma, at the rank of First
Sergeant. He served during the Vietnam War. He was a member
of Vietnam Veterans of America-Lawton Chapter 751.
Starling
Harris, 61, died November 10, 2006, in Napa, California,
from heart failure. He served in the U.S. Army with a tour
of duty in Vietnam from August 1965 to June 1966. A life
member, he was a founding member of Vietnam Veterans of America-Yountville
Chapter 702.
David W. Hellen, 55, died November 1, 2006, in
Saint Petersburg, Florida, from a massive heart attack. He
served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He was a
life member and president of Vietnam Veterans of America-Saint
Petersburg Chapter 943. He was also president of VVA-Pasadena
(California) Chapter 446.
Robert M. Hernandez, 73, died November
29, 2006, in Lawton, Oklahoma. He served in the U.S. Army
with service in Vietnam and retired at the rank of First
Sergeant. He was a life member of Vietnam Veterans of America-Lawton
Chapter 751.
Lawrence E. “Lonnie” Holthouser,
60, died October 30, 2006, in Chicago from heart disease.
He served in the U.S. Navy in Vietnam as a Corpsman to the
Marines. He was a life member of Vietnam Veterans of America-Louisville
Chapter 454.
Herbert D. Jones, 63, died recently in Buckeye,
West Virginia. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and a
life member
of Vietnam Veterans of America-Elkins Chapter 812.
Kenneth
W. Kenyon, 64, died October 31, 2006, in Tully, New York,
from prostate cancer. He served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam.
He was a member of Vietnam Veterans of America-Syracuse Chapter
103.
Levi Hillman Keyes, 58, died November 1, 2006, in Ponca
City, Oklahoma. He served in the U.S. Navy from September
1960 to June 1970 and served as a Corpsman to the Third Marine
Division in the Vietnam War. He was a life member of Vietnam
Veterans of America-Ponca City Chapter 750 and served as
president for many years. Prior to starting Chapter 750,
he was instrumental in starting two other VVA chapters in
Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Alexander J. Lamanna, 87, died October 3,
2006, in Willowbrook, Staten Island, New York. He served
in the U.S. Army during World War II with the Third Infantry
Division and saw duty in Europe and Africa. He was a member
of Associates of Vietnam Veterans of America-Staten Island
Chapter 421, which named him “Associate Member of the
Year 2005.”
Marie Lasauce died recently in Alexandria,
Virginia. She was a member of Associates of Vietnam Veterans
of America-Farmingville (New York) Chapter 11.
Robert A. Leach died July
2, 2000, in Eagle River, Wisconsin. He was a veteran of the
Vietnam War and an at-large life member of Vietnam Veterans
of America- Wisconsin.
James M. Lee, 60, died December 3,
2003, in Moreno Valley, California. He was a veteran of the
Vietnam War and a member of Vietnam Veterans of America-
Norristown Chapter 349.
John J. Lennox, 77, died November
23, 2006, in Webster, New York. He served in the U.S. Army
during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was a member of Vietnam
Veterans of America-Rochester Chapter 20.
Michael Gordon Leslie,
58, died December 1, 2006, in Clearville, Pennsylvania. He
served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was a
member of Vietnam Veterans of America-Cumberland Chapter
172.
James A. Lester died recently in Webster, New York, from
Agent Orange-related cancer. He was a veteran of the Vietnam
War and a member of Vietnam Veterans of America-Rochester
Chapter 20.
Robert Peter Lindsey, 63, died November 1, 2006,
in Hampton, Virginia. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps
from February 1965-71 with a tour of duty in Vietnam. He
was a member of Vietnam Veterans of America-Tidewater (Virginia
Beach) Chapter 48.
Alvin Leroy Litton, 64, died November 26,
2006, in Short Gap, West Virginia. He served in the U.S.
Army in the Vietnam War. He was a member of Vietnam Veterans
of America-Cumberland Post 172.
Tommy Ross Marshall, 56, died
November 23, 2006, in Hamilton, Mississippi. He served in
the U.S. Army with a tour of duty in Vietnam from November
1969-70. He was a member of Vietnam Veterans of America-Verona
Chapter 842.
Jimmy Franklin McCarley, 62, died November 14,
2006, in Lawton, Oklahoma. He served in the Oklahoma National
Guard for five years before joining the U.S. Navy and serving
in the Vietnam War. He was a life member of Vietnam Veterans
of America-Lawton Chapter 751.
Francis Edward McElroy, 59,
died September 27, 2006, in Milan, Michigan, from cancer.
He served in the U.S. Army with a tour of duty in Vietnam
in 1968. He was a member of Vietnam Veterans of America-Ann
Arbor Chapter 310.
Frank J. Mendoza, 61, died November 2006
in French Settle, Louisiana, from a heart attack. He served
in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He was a
member of Vietnam Veterans of America-Prairieville Chapter
725.
Vernon Lewis Mitchell, 59, died November 4, 2006, in
San Antonio, Texas. He served in the U.S. Army with a tour
of duty in Vietnam. He was a member of Vietnam Veterans of
America-Blue-Gray (Princeton) Chapter 628.
Sylvester George
Murphy, 58, died October 28, 2006, in Tottenville, New York,
from Agent Orange-related cancer. He served in the U.S. Air
Force from 1966-73. He was a Sergeant and Crew Chief and
flew C-130s in Vietnam and the Far East. He was a member
of Vietnam Veterans of America-Staten Island Chapter 421
and the chapter’s Member of the Year in 2006.
Larry
Dean Neilson, 60, died October 22, 2006, in Ponca City, Oklahoma.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was
a member of Vietnam Veterans of America-Ponca City Chapter
750.
Josh L. Niles died recently in Lake Charles, Louisiana.
He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and a life member of
Vietnam Veterans of America-Lake Charles Chapter 215.
Fred
W. Ritvo, 75, died recently in Brewster, Massachusetts. He
was a veteran of the Vietnam War and a member of Vietnam
Veterans of America-Hyannis Chapter 338.
James N. Sharp, 65,
died October 10, 2006, at his home in Paw Paw, West Virginia.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War with the
611th Aircraft Maintenance Battalion. He was a life member
of Vietnam Veterans of America- Cumberland Chapter 172.
Michael
Simon, 57, died July 13, 2006, in Youngsville, Louisiana.
He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and a member of Vietnam
Veterans of America-Lafayette Chapter 141.
Timothy M. Slavik died September 2, 2006, in Cleveland from cancer. He was
a veteran of the Vietnam War and a member of Vietnam Veterans
of America-Bay Village Chapter 249.
Edward B. Smith, 64, died
June 28, 2006, in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, from leukemia.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was
life member of Vietnam Veterans of America-Saint Marys Chapter
720.
George T. Spencer, 60, died December 10, 2006, in Hixson,
Tennessee. He served in the U.S. Army from 1963-83 with a
tour of duty in Vietnam from 1967-68. He was a life member
of Vietnam Veterans of America-Chattanooga Chapter 203.
Herbert
Carroll Street, 78, died November 11, 2006, in Johnson City,
Tennessee. He served in the U.S. Army for 32 years with two
tours of duty in Vietnam, one with the 82nd Airborne Division
and the other with the 101st Airborne Division at the rank
of Chief Warrant Officer 4. He was a life member of Vietnam
Veterans of America-Elizabethton Chapter 824.
Gerald H. Swarm,
79, died November 25, 2006, in Blue Bell, Pennsylvania, from
lung cancer. He joined the U.S. Navy in December 1944. He
was stationed on the USS Franklin (aircraft carrier) and
the USS Waller (destroyer). He was next stationed at Willow
Grove NAS after World War II, and he became a Navy chief
hospital corpsman and served 21 years active duty and 9 years
in the reserves. He was an air/sea rescue crewman on a HUP-2
helicopter and then became an independent duty corpsman and
transferred to the USS Neptune (cable repair ship). He was
a veteran of World War II and the Korean and Vietnam Wars.
He was a member of Vietnam Veterans of America-Philadelphia
Chapter 590.
James J. Syler, 64, died August 12, 2006, in
Canton, Ohio. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and a member
of Vietnam Veterans of America-Sharon Lane Memorial Chapter
199.
Roy Harvey Turpin, Jr., 62, died October 1, 2006, in
Holly Ridge, North Carolina, from a tractor roll-over while
he was cutting brush on his land. He served in the U.S. Army
for 21 years and retired at the rank of Sergeant First Class
with a tour of duty in Vietnam. He was a life member of Vietnam
Veterans of America-Blue-Gray (Princeton) Chapter 628.
Robert
E. Underwood, 56, died October 28, 2006, in Coldwater, Michigan.
He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He was
a founding member of Vietnam Veterans of America-Coldwater
Chapter 730.
Mike Vackers died recently in Hurst, Texas. He
was a veteran of the Vietnam War and a life member of Vietnam
Veterans of America-Arlington Chapter 330.
James Don Warren,
Sr., 59, died November 11, 2006, in Kingston, Tennessee,
from cancer. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam
War as a helicopter pilot with the 161st Assault Helicopter
Company, A Company, 123rd Aviation Battalion, and with the
famed “Blue Ghosts” of F Troop,
8th Cavalry. He was a highly decorated officer at the rank
of Captain. He was a member of Vietnam Veterans of America-Chattanooga
Chapter 203.
Edmond Wilson, 56, died November 9, 2006, in
Clare, Iowa, from an aneurysm. He served in the U.S. Army
during the Vietnam War. He was a charter member of Vietnam
Veterans of America-Fort Dodge Chapter 861.
Gerald Works,
63, died December 6, 2006, in Arkansas. He was a veteran
of the Vietnam War and a member of Vietnam Veterans of America-Pine
Bluff Chapter 830.
