BY DAVE SIMMONS, NATIONAL PROGRAM DIRECTOR
The Veterans Against Drugs program will be traveling back to the Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola to work on a very exciting new project.
VAD and members of VVA Incarcerated Chapter 689 will be working together on a DVD that will feature incarcerated veterans who candidly discuss the roles that illegal drugs, alcohol, and violence have had in the crimes that caused them to become incarcerated. We hope that the veterans’ stories will send a powerful message about violence and illegal drugs to every participant in the Veterans Against Drugs program.
The interviews will take place in mid-September at Angola. We hope that a completed DVD will be available for distribution by the end of the year. This DVD will be 30 to 45 minutes in length and will feature several different Vietnam veterans and a few veterans of other wars talking about their experiences.
This will be another valuable tool in our continuing effort to help keep America’s youth drug free and safe.
