Region 4 REPORT
BY CAROL SCHETROMPF, DIRECTOR
In Region 4, we are going great guns. New chapters have been
started in Georgia, Mississippi, and Puerto Rico.
I have made
sure to visit each State Council since I was elected. I
have enjoyed the warmth I felt at each State Council meeting.
I only wish I could have attended the entire Alabama State
Council meeting, but Delta Airlines had a different idea.
Last
December, Barry Hagge and I visited the Puerto Rico State
Council. We were given a tour of the VA Medical Center. While
it looked great on the outside, the conditions are deplorable.
The waiting areas are cramped; the parking is severely inadequate.
If you have an appointment at 2 p.m. you had better get there
at 9 a.m. to try to find a parking space. Forget trying to
find a handicap space.
On the entire island of Puerto Rico
and in the U.S. Virgin Islands, there is only one VA hospital
and five satellite clinics. The PTSD Clinic is only able
to see ninety patients per month. They just don’t have
the staff or the space.
I would like to thank Jorge Pedroza and all the VVA members
in Puerto Rico for their hospitality.
All of the State Council
presidents have been working hard. I just can’t thank
them enough. Their hard work has made my job so much easier.
I have been able to establish communication lines with all
the State Council officers, chapter officers, and members
of this Region.
I will be there for all our VVA and AVVA members
in Region 4.
