AVVA’s Project Friendship for the Greenville, South Carolina, 2008 Biennial Meeting will help the Wounded Warrior Project and Safe Harbor.

WOUNDED WARRIOR PROJECT
The Wounded Warrior Project’s mission is to raise awareness and enlist the public’s aid for the needs of severely injured service men and women, to help severely injured service members aid and assist each other, and to provide unique, direct programs and services to meet their needs.
The Wounded Warrior Project began when several individuals took small, inspired actions to help others in need. While watching the evening news, veterans were moved by stories of the first wounded service members returning home from Afghanistan and Iraq. They realized that something needed to be done for these veterans beyond the brass bands and ticker-tape parades.

They wanted to provide tangible support for the severely wounded to help them heal physically and mentally. What they viewed as a small contribution compared to what the warriors had sacrificed, is now WWP’s signature program: WWP backpacks delivered bedside to wounded warriors.

SAFE HARBOR: A SAFE HOME WHEN HOME ISN’T SAFE
Safe Harbor provides temporary safe shelter for victims and their children. It aims to train and educate the general public, parents and children, and professionals who deal with victims and perpetrators of domestic violence. It also coordinates a sustained effort to alleviate the explosive problem of family violence.

Safe Harbor Services provide the following: crisis counseling, emergency shelter, basic necessities, emergency room advocacy, referral services, advocacy, children’s services, community support groups, educational prevention programs, and community education.

Please see Safe Harbor’s wish list at the AVVA Web page or go to www.safeharborsc.org
